Just hours after we reported that the Eisner-nominated comic Lumberjanes is heading to the big screen, Universal Television has optioned another comic nominated for several Eisner Awards this year, The Wicked + the Divine, for a TV adaptation. Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick will produce the adaptation through their Milkfed Criminal Masterminds, although it isn't known who will write the adaptation. The comic was launched in June 2014 by Image and won the Best Comic at the 2014 British Comic Awards.

The story is set in a world where, every 90 years, 12 Gods incarnate as humans on Earth, where they are both loved and hated. In this world where Gods are the ultimate pop stars, and vice versa, these incarnate humans will all be dead within two years. The comic book series was created by Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie and Matt Wilson. 10 issues have been published since its launch last year, with the 11th set to debut on June 3. Kieron Gillen revealed in a recent interview that they planned on publishing anywhere between 30 and 60 issues of The Wicked + the Divine.

Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick planned to use their Milkfed Criminal Masterminds company as a launching pad for creator-owned comics such as The Wicked + the Divine. It remains to be seen how involved the creators will be in the production of the TV series, but we'll keep you posted as soon as we have more updates. Are you excited to see a TV series version of The Wicked + the Divine?
