Just a few days after Fox confirmed a summer 2015 release date for the Independence Day sequel ID Forever - Part 1, director Roland Emmerich revealed that Will Smith is not starring in the sequel. Here's what the filmmaker had to say in a recent interview.

"Will Smith can not come back because he's too expensive, but he'd also be too much of a marquee name. It would be too much."

This falls in line with a report from 2011, which indicated that the sequel may happen without Will Smith, since he reportedly asked for a whopping $50 million to appear in both ID Forever - Part 1 and ID Forever - Part 2. Roland Emmerich also revealed that about half of the original cast of Independence Day will be back.

"We have like maybe half of the people that you know would know from the first film (in the script) and the other half people who are new."

It isn't known when production will begin on ID Forever - Part 1
