According to Variety, Angels in the Outfield helmer William Dear has signed on to direct The Third Miracle for Lone Runner Entertainment.

The indie pic is based on the true story of a team of impoverished boys from Monterrey, Mexico, circa 1957, who become the first non-U.S. team to win the Little League World Series.

Lone Runner topper W. William Winokur penned the script, and the company has optioned life rights to the story's central characters.

Winokur, whose novel "Marathon" is being published next year through Kissena Park Press, initially envisioned the project as a book before turning it into a script.
