Yesterday, we got to see paparazzi photos of Hugh Jackman out shopping with his wife. The interesting thing about these images is that they showed the actor sporting his new look for Wolverine 3. And he's definitely a little gray around the edges. This has only helped fuel speculation that the actor is portraying Old Man Logan, a take on the iconic Marvel Mutant that spans multiple comic book issues. Today, we have our first set photos, and they only help back this notion up.

Hugh Jackman was spotted shooting scenes for Wolverine 3 on Tuesday, May 31, in New Orleans. Though 47, the actor looks much older in a graying beard and disheveled suit. Gone is any indication that the man is a fast-healing superhero with adamantium claws. Which fits right into the legendary Old Man Logan story arc. Though, that has never been confirmed by anyone directly associated with the movie.

Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine for the ninth and final time in Wolverine 3, which doesn't have a proper title yet. He was last seen making a cameo in last weekend's X-Men: Apocalypse. His new movie is set to hit theaters on March 3, 2017. But we'll surely learn more about the story before then. We would hope.

In Old Man Logan, Wolverine loses his mutant abilities and finally starts to age. Written by Mark Millar with art from Steve McNiven, the comics are infamous for their extreme action. The Marvel saga was published in June 2008 and ran through September 2009, spread across the pages of Wolverine #66 through #72, along with Wolverine Giant-Size Old Man Logan. The plot follows Logan in a distant post-apocalyptic future. Magneto, Dr. Doom, and the Red Skull have divided the dystopian United States amongst themselves after the X-Men team comes to a mysterious end. With a wife and two children, Logan has abandoned his Wolverine persona, and refuses to ever extract his claws again. But of course, he's brought out of retirement for one last go.

Given that Wolverine 3 will be the actor's final portrayal of Logan, many believe that the Old Man Logan story is a perfect fit for his franchise finale. The comic book is incredibly violent, and it was recently confirmed that the movie will be R-rated, with 20th Century Fox already setting a March 3, 2017 release date. James Mangold is directing from a script by David James Kelley. Producer Simon Kinberg recently confirmed the movie will be set in the future, which could be another hint that they're tackling the Old Man Logan story.

Hugh Jackman will be joined by Patrick Stewart as Professor X, along with a slew of new cast members. Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Richard E. Grant and Eriq La Salle have recently joined the cast, and there have been rumors that the sequel is casting for the X-23 role, a mutant clone of Wolverine in the comics. The post-credit scene in X-Men: Apocalypse features a comic book character dubbed Mister Sinister, who is seen stealing a vial with Wolverine's blood, which some speculate may be used to create X-23 in Wolverine 3.
