It has long been confirmed that Wolverine 3 will mark Hugh Jackman's final performance as the iconic Wolverine. Many have wondered how the franchise will be able to replace such an iconic character, but over the past few months, rumors have swirled that reveal this superhero movie will introduce X-23, a female mutant who was created as a clone of Wolverine. While this character was never confirmed, we saw Hugh Jackman on the set with an unidentified girl last week in new set photos, and today we have even more images.

Before production started in New Orleans on Wolverine 3, a casting call was sent out that many fans thought was for the popular mutant X-23. That casting call was seeking Caucasian, Hispanic and Asian women over the age of 21, who are between 4'0-4'11 in height, size 0-4, with dark brown hair for stand-in roles. However, a new character description revealed this mystery character dubbed Zoe is between 12 and 15 years of age, which matches up to the unidentified young girl seen with Hugh Jackman in these photos.

Today's images tease that Wolverine and whoever this young girl is, may be in a bit of trouble. They're both seen standing outside of a limousine, which has been riddled with bullet holes, and the girl herself may have even been shot. The photos reveal a blood-red stain on the actress' pink shirt, but we don't know for sure if she was shot or not. Production has been under way since early May, but we still don't have an official plot synopsis for this R-rated movie.

There was also a recent report that claimed the movie will actually be called Weapon X, with many speculating about whether or not this story ties in to last month's X-Men: Apocalypse. Hugh Jackman made a brief appearance during X-Men: Apocalypse, which was set in 1983, as he took out a number of soldiers at the Weapon X facility at Alkali Lake. Then again, since that movie was set in the past, and Hugh Jackman has been spotted sporting a beard with hints of grey, it doesn't seem likely that this story will be set in 1983. It is possible that there could be a flashback or some other tie-in to X-Men: Apocalypse, but we don't know for sure.

Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Patrick Stewart's Professor X will reunite. The cast includes Boyd Holbrook as the villain, Stephen Merchant, Richard E. Grant and Eriq La Salle in unspecified roles. We'll continue to keep you posted with more updates on Wolverine 3, but in the meantime, check out the latest photos from the Wolverine 3 set. You can see even more photos at Just Jared.
