We don't even have an official title for Wolverine 3 yet, but the picture is starting to come together for Hugh Jackman's last turn as Logan in the X-Men universe. Today, we learned that legendary X-Men villain Mister Sinister will indeed be appearing in James Mangold's sequel to The Wolverine, likely as the main bad guy. Now we are just waiting on the first footage of the movie and a title, which is likely to be coming sooner rather than later.

The Mister Sinister appearance was discovered by Cinema Blend who had a listen to the commentary track for X-Men: Apocalypse. In the commentary track, it was revealed by Simon Kindberg and Bryan Singer that the supervillain will indeed be appearing in the upcoming Wolverine movie. This also helps to clarify what exactly that post-credits scene in Apocalypse was related to, which was previously a bit ambiguous, though it did seem to point at Mister Sinister showing up somewhere in the X-Men universe somewhere down the line.

For those who may need a refresher, the post-credits teaser at the end of Apocalypse featured some men heading into the bloody, messy Weapon X facility that Wolverine trashed during the movie. The men were there to grab a vile of blood/D.N.A that belonged to Wolverine. The men then stick the vial into a briefcase, which clearly shows that they are representatives of Essex Corp., which just so happens to be the company owned by Mister Sinister, or Nathaniel Essex, if you prefer.

Mister Sinister is a classic X-Men villain who was created by comic legends Chris Claremont and Marc Silvestri in 1987. Mister Sinister is absolutely obsessed with genetic engineering, which will likely tie into the female Wolverine clone X-23 somehow. Mister Sinister has an insane skill set and a lot of powers which include being a master manipulator, superhuman strength, genius intellect, telepathy, regenerative healing, shapeshifting and telekinesis, just to name a few. In short, he is incredibly formidable. Also, if they stick at all closely to the classic costume, he has a very cool look to him, but the X-Men movie franchise has taken quite a few liberties with many characters looks thus far, so who knows what way they will go with it. As for who will play him? Right now the most likely candidate is Robert E. Grant who signed onto the movie a while back and is said to be playing a "mad scientist" of sorts.

As for when we will get a look at Wolverine 3 and/or a title reveal? We probably won't have to wait too long. Director James Mangold took to his Twitter to answer a fan question at the end of August, who had asked if there was "any word" on the movie. Here is what he had to say.

"Working on it every day in edit room, Vince. You'll hear and see things very soon. Glad you're pumped & I hope we surprise you."

With the release of the movie just six months away, it seems very likely that we will at least get a poster and a title reveal in the very near future. It is also likely that the first trailer could debut in front of an upcoming movie like Tim Burton's Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children, which is also being released by Fox. Or, there is the possibility that it could land before Doctor Strange in November. This installment of the X-Men franchise will be R-rated, much liked Deadpool, and will be Hugh Jackman's final appearance as Wolverine. The cast also includes Patrick Stewart who is reprising his role as Professor X, Stephen Merchant, Boyd Holbrook, Eriq La Salle and Elizabeth Rodriguez. The untitled Wolverine 3 is set for release on March 3, 2017.
