2016 marks the 75th Anniversary of Wonder Woman's DC Comics debut, which was celebrated in part by this beloved character's first live-action foray on the big screen. Gal Gadot played Diana of Themyscira in this spring's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Today we have word that the man who created Wonder Woman, William Marston is getting a movie of his own, with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions picking up Professor Marston & The Wonder Women. Production already started this week, with Luke Evans starring as William Marston.

Deadline reports that this biopic will delve into the life of William Marston, a Harvard psychologist and inventor who created Wonder Woman in 1941. The cast also includes Rebecca Hall as William Marston's wife Elizabeth, a psychologist and inventor, and Bella Heathcote as Olive Byrne, one of Marston's former students who had a polyamorous relationship with the married couple. William Marston's enduring creation was heavily influenced by both Elizabeth and Olive's feminist ideals.

The movie will center on how William Marston dealt with the controversy over his creation, which his critics contended would turn young women into lesbians, while keeping his unconventional home life a secret, which would have destroyed all three of them if exposed. William Marston died from skin cancer in 1947 at the age of 53, with both Elizabeth and Olive staying together as a couple, raising William's children. Olive Byrne died in 1988, while Elizabeth Marston died in 1993 at the age of 100.

Angela Robinson (How to Get Away With Murder) is directing from her own screenplay, with Topple co-founder Andrea Sperling producing with Amy Redford and Terry Leonard. Transparent creator Jill Solloway, who also co-founded Topple, will serve as an executive producer alongside Boxspring Entertainment's Claire Munn. Sony hasn't set aside a release date for this upcoming biopic quite yet.

Gal Gadot will return as William Marston's beloved creation, Diana of Themyscira, in her stand alone Wonder Woman movie, debuting on June 2, 2017, and in Justice League, which is set for release on November 17, 2017. Luke Evans currently stars in the new thriller The Girl on the Train, which debuts in theaters today, and he will next be seen in Disney's live action Beauty and the Beast adaptation. Rebecca Hall is coming off roles in The Gift and The BFG, while Bella Heathcote recently starred in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and The Neon Demon, and she will next be see in Fifty Shades Darker. Hopefully we'll have more plot details and casting updates for Professor Marston & the Wonder Women soon.
