Back in February, we reported that Warner Bros.' highly-anticipated Wonder Woman begins production this fall, but we were never given any specifics about where shooting may take place. During last week's episode of Meet the Movie Press, it was revealed that the superhero adventure has landed a cinematographer, with Interstellar's Hoyte Van Hoytema signing on, while Yahoo! Italy reports that Wonder Woman will be partially shot in Basilicata, Italy. These reports haven't been confirmed at this time, but if shooting is scheduled to commence sometime this fall, we should get confirmation soon.

Hoyte Van Hoytema first made his mark with director Tomas Alfredson's 2008 thriller Let the Right One in, which lead to more high-profile work in The Fighter, Tomas Alfredson's English language debut Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, Her and Interstellar. He also served as the DP on the upcoming James Bond action-thriller Spectre, arriving in theaters November 6. Given his rapid rise through the cinematographer ranks, it's not at all surprising that he would come aboard for Wonder Woman.

As for the Italy shoot, it isn't known how much of Wonder Woman will be shot in Basilicata, which has has been the home to big-budget productions such as the upcoming Ben-Hur and Mel Gibson's 2004 Biblical epic The Passion of the Christ. There have been rumors in the past that this superhero movie will explore Diana Prince's origins in her homeland of Themyscira, and it seems possible that the Italy portion of the shoot could be used for these scenes. That rumor claims the movie will be set both in Wonder Woman's homeland, and in the 1920s, during World War I. Another report seemed to back that rumor up, claiming that Gal Gadot's title character will be "hundreds of years old" when we first see her in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

As of now, only Gal Gadot and Chris Pine have been set to star, with the latter playing Diana Prince's love interest, Steve Trevor. Patty Jenkins has been set to direct, from a script by Jason Fuchs (Pan). It has been rumored that Wonder Woman, Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) meet the rest of the Justice League at the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Other characters expected to show up are Aquaman (Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher).

Wonder Woman is set for release on June 23, 2017, just a few months before Justice League Part 1 hits theaters on November 11, 2017. Do you think this report of an Italy should could confirm rumors of the Themyscira setting in Wonder Woman? As we get closer to the proposed fall production start, stay tuned for official details regarding this highly-anticipated project.
