Paul Dano, Anton Yelchin, Travis Fimmel and Anson Mount are on the short list of contenders for lead roles in World of Warcraft. The news comes just one day after our report that Paula Patton is in negotiations and Colin Farrell was offered a role in this video game adaptation.

No details have been given on any of the characters these actors may be playing. Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) is directing from a screenplay by Charles Leavitt (Seventh Son). Sam Raimi, who was once attached to direct, is producing alongside Charles Roven and Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni.

We reported in August that shooting is scheduled to begin January 13 at CMPP Studios in Vancouver. This big-screen adventure is based on the hit video game series, which debuted in 1994 and has players from all over the world doing battle in an epic war between the Horde and the Alliance. There have been several different versions of the multi-player online roleplaying game (MPORG) released since its debut, which features elements of sci-fi, horror and fantasy genres.

Paul Dano can currently be seen in the box office hit Prisoners, and he stars in 12 Years a Slave next month. Anton Yelchin starred in the summer sequels Star Trek Into Darkness and The Smurfs 2. Travis Fimmel is best known for his role on History's Vikings as Ragner Lothbrok. Anson Mount stars in the AMC series Hell on Wheels.
