Production is currently under way on Fox's Untitled X-Files Revival in Vancouver, which brings back The X-Files stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny to reprise their roles as Scully and Mulder. The new series will also bring back original X-Files stars Mitch Pileggi (Walter Skinner) and William B. Davis (The Cigarette Smoking Man), but the only new cast members that has been announced are Joel McHale, who plays a news anchor that becomes an ally to Mulder, and Annet Mahendru. Over the weekend, Silicon Valley star Kumail Nanjiani revealed on his Twitter page that he has landed a role on the series, posting a new photo from the set with Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny.

While he wouldn't reveal exactly who he is playing, the photo he posted from the set showed the actor wearing an animal control officer uniform. It isn't known exactly what episode Kumail Nanjiani will be appearing in, but he did reveal that Darin Morgan will be writing and directing the episode, and that the script is "wonderful." The Untitled X-Files Revival will only have a six-episode run, debuting Sunday, January 24 on Fox, directly following the NFC Championship Game.

Original series creator Chris Carter is writing and executive producing the series along with original writer/producers Glen Morgan, James Wong and Darin Morgan. There have been rumors that original series stars Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish will also return, but their involvement has yet to be confirmed by the network. There was also a rumor that the second episode, entitled "Home Again", will be a sequel to the beloved Season 4 episode "Home", but that report was debunked.

Kumail Nanjiani is a longtime fan of The X-Files, and he also hosts a podcast entitled The X-Files Files, where he dissects each episode with various guests. David Duchovny revealed in May that he was open to starring in more X-Files revival episodes, but he wouldn't be open to going back for a full 20-episode season. We'll have to wait and see how popular this new version of X-Files is with the fans before we find out if another season is ordered.

Kumail Nanjiani currently stars on HBO's hit series Silicon Valley, which just wrapped up Season 2. He also appeared on a recent Season 6 episode of Yahoo! Screen's Community, and starred in the comedy sequel Hot Tub Time Machine 2 and Kevin Pollack's documentary Misery Loves Comedy. While we wait for more details on his role in the Untitled X-Files Revival, take a look at the photos he posted from the set.
