Earlier today, a number of superhero luminaries showered heaps of praise upon the risky Deadpool, which, against all odds, became a box office hit, earning $135 million in its opening weekend. One of the filmmakers who praised the movie was Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, who speculated that the movie's success could lead to a string of R-rated superhero movies trying to capture the same magic that Deadpool did. As it turns out, just before the movie's release, producer Simon Kinberg took part in a Q&A session with director Tim Miller and comic book creator Rob Liefeld, who said it was possible that the upcoming 20th Century Fox project X-Force could get an R rating.

"I think there are some stories that could be R-rated. I don't know what they are, I mean I think the mainline X-Men movies have their own tone, which is a more operatic tone. It's more dramatic, it is more PG-13 in a way. X-Force I could see being R-rated, and who knows? I'm saying I could imagine a universe in which [X-Force is R-rated]."

X-Force was first announced back in 2013, when 20th Century Fox brought on Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) to write the script and possibly direct. Last week, just days before Deadpool hit theaters, star Ryan Reynolds revealed that X-Force was his top priority, and while no cast members have been confirmed yet, Deadpool was part of the X-Force lineup in the comics books, which were also created by Rob Liefeld. Ryan Reynolds even appeared in a brief video with Olivia Munn, who plays Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse, and, in the comics, was also an X-Force member.

As of now, 20th Century Fox hasn't given an official green light for X-Force, but that may soon happen, in the wake of Deadpool's success. It's also worth noting that, during one of the post-credit scenes, Ryan Reynolds revealed that Cable, the X-Force leader, will appear in Deadpool 2, which is already moving forward at the studio, with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick already working on the script. Cable's inclusion in this sequel could help set the table for the X-Force movie, but we'll have to wait and see.

20th Century Fox is also developing The New Mutants, which has been rumored to feature Deadpool star Brianna Hildebrand returning as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and there are also rumors that Bryan Singer will return to direct X-Men 7. The studio is also getting ready to start production on two more X-Men spinoffs, Gambit and Wolverine 3, in the near future. Do you think X-Force or any of these other movies should be rated R? Let us know what you think, and stay tuned for more on X-Force.
