Director Bryan Singer revealed on his official Twitter and Instagram pages today that actress Olivia Munn has been cast in X-Men: Apocalypse as Betsy Braddock, a.k.a. Psylocke. The news comes just a few weeks after a report that producers were searching for the right actress to play Psylocke, but no contenders for the role were revealed. Olivia Munn joins a cast that also includes Oscar Isaac (Apocalypse), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Rose Byrne (Moira McTaggert), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler}, Ben Hardy (Angel) and Lana Condor (Jubilee).

Betsy Braddock, a.k.a. Psylocke made her Marvel comics debut in Captain Britain #8 in 1976. She ultimately ended up taking over as Captain Britain from her twin brother in 1986, and made her debut as Psylocke in 1987's Uncanny X-Men #213. Her primary mutant ability is that she can form a katana blade through her fists by using telekinesis. She also has precognitive powers and is immune to telepathic probes and attacks on her mind. After swapping powers with Jean Grey, she also gained the ability to create force field, move objects with her mind and generate blades of energy. It remains to be seen which of these powers will be put on display in X-Men: Apocalypse. Psylocke had a brief appearance in X-Men: The Last Stand, played by Mei Melançon.

X-Men: Days of Future Past stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult and Evan Peters are expected to reprise their roles, with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, Halle Berry's old Storm and Channing Tatum's Gambit expected to have cameo appearances. Production is slated to get under way later this month in Montreal, so hopefully we'll learn more about this superhero adaptation very soon. Olivia Munn most recently starred in Deliver Us from Evil and Mortdecai, and she will next be seen in the comedy sequel Ride Along 2.
