When X-Men: Days of Future Past hit theaters in 2014, fans were treated to an early glimpse of what to expect in this month's X-Men: Apocalypse, with a post-credit scene featuring a young En Sabbah Nur assembling the pyramids in Egypt with his telekinetic powers. Of course, this young mutant, the first in history, would go on to become the mighty and powerful Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac), who threatens to wipe out humanity in the final installment of 20th Century Fox's X-Men prequel trilogy. While we wait for the May 27 release, many fans are wondering whether or not there will be a post-credit scene in this movie, which has just been confirmed by producer Simon Kinberg.

We don't have any specifics on what happens in this scene, but during an interview with Collider, it was hinted that this post-credit tag helps set up a Wolverine movie, although they don't specifically mention Wolverine 3. The producer teased that another character is introduced by name, who could surface in several different X-Men movies. Here's what the producer had to say below.

"It's a nod toward potentially a lot of different movies. I mean certainly the Wolverine movie is related to what happens at the end of it, but there's also another character that's introduced, at least in name, in the tag and he could show up in any host of different X-Men films. Maybe a Gambit movie, maybe another X-Men movie."

During a different interview from earlier this week, Simon Kinberg confirmed that Wolverine 3 has started filming, although an official title has not yet been revealed. We also saw in the latest trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse that Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will have some sort of presence in X-Men: Apocalypse, although it isn't known how large or small his role is. Still, it seems this post-credit scene will help set up the future of the X-Men franchise at large.

20th Century Fox is currently developing The New Mutants, with writer-director Josh Boone recently revealing that the second draft of the script has been turned in, with the Gambit spinoff set to start production later this year. The studio is also working on Deadpool 2, and there have been rumors that director Bryan Singer will start production on an unspecified X-Men movie next year in Montreal, where he shot X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse. We'll have to wait and see what new character is introduced in the X-Men: Apocalypse post-credit scene, as we continue the countdown to the May 27 release date, so stay tuned for more updates.
