'Only the strong survive!' 20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse! Last month, Bryan Singer shared a new photo from the edit bay of X-Men: Apocalypse, teasing that the first trailer would be coming soon. Just a few days later, producer Simon Kinberg confirmed that the trailer would be attached to prints of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, in theaters December 18. As it turns out, the first footage debuted online today, following the first X-Men: Apocalypse teaser poster that arrived yesterday. While you'll still be able to see this footage in theaters with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, you can watch it right here to get ready for the big screen experience.

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction. It will be one of the greatest tests these Marvel superheroes have ever faced.

Bryan Singer has teased in the past that X-Men: Apocalypse will be the end of the trilogy that includes X-Men: First Class and last year's X-Men: Days of Future Past. 20th Century Fox is extending this beloved X-Men franchise with three more movies that have connections to this universe, Deadpool, Gambit and Wolverine 3, but 20th Century Fox hasn't confirmed any further plans. A report surfaced last month that claimed Bryan Singer is prepping a mystery X-Men movie that 20th Century Fox will release in 2018, but that hasn't been confirmed.

Also reprising their roles from X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past are Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Rose Byrne (Moira McTaggert), Evan Peters (Quicksilver). New cast members include Oscar Isaac as the villainous Apocalypse, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler. We've also included new photos from the trailer itself, which offer a better look at the action.

Bryan Singer is directing from a script by Simon Kinberg, based on a story the director and screenwriter crafted together with Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty, who co-wrote the script for X2: X-Men: United. 20th Century Fox has slated X-Men: Apocalypse for release on May 27, 2016, putting it up against yet another sequel, Disney's Alice Through the Looking Glass. Check out the first trailer below, and stay tuned for more on X-Men: Apocalypse.
