After X-Men: Apocalypse and the spinoffs Deadpool and Gambit hit theaters next year, and Wolverine 3 in 2017, 20th Century Fox's plans for their beloved X-Men franchise remain unclear. The studio also has their Fantastic Four reboot arriving in theaters this August, with The Fantastic Four 2 sequel already set for June 9, 2017. Today we have a new report from Latino Review that claims the studio is pondering a crossover between both superhero franchises to be released in 2018.

This is all assuming that Fantastic Four is a hit this summer, The Fantastic Four 2 runs smoothly and X-Men: Apocalypse doesn't tank at the box office. But 20th Century Fox is reportedly considering an X-Men/Fantastic Four movie featuring Miles Teller (Mr. Fantastic), Michael B. Jordan (The Human Torch), Kate Mara (The Invisible Woman) and Jamie Bell (The Thing). It is unclear which X-Men characters will join them (if it happens). Also unknown is who may write and direct this crossover movie, or if a full story has already been worked out. This isn't the first time we've heard about these two franchises crossing over, with producer Simon Kinberg revealing in October that a crossover is possible, but it likely won't happen for several years. This is the first we're hearing of a 2018 timeline for the crossover though, so perhaps the studio is more receptive to the project.

Since X-Men: Apocalypse takes place in the 1980s, featuring the younger versions of mutants such as Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Beast (Nicholas Hoult), it seems unlikely that these characters will be used in the crossover. However, last year's X-Men: Days of Future Past did create a new present day timeline, so it's possible that original X-Men stars such as Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Famke Janssen (Jean Grey), James Marsden (Cyclops), Halle Berry (Storm) and Anna Paquin (Rogue) could be brought back. What do you think about the possibility of an X-Men and Fantastic Four crossover?
