Following the first look photo released back in November, the first trailer has arrived for the apocalyptic drama Z for Zachariah. The film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival back in January, where it was picked up by Grindstone Entertainment, which has set an August 21 release date. Margot Robbie, Chris Pine and Chiwetel Ejiofor make up the entire cast of this minimalist sci-fi drama, which offers a different twist on the apocalyptic genre.

In the wake of a nuclear war, a young woman survives on her own, fearing she may actually be the proverbial last woman on earth, until she discovers the most astonishing sight of her life: another human being. A distraught scientist, he's nearly been driven mad by radiation exposure and his desperate search for others. A fragile, imperative strand of trust connects them. But when a stranger enters the valley, their precarious bond begins to unravel.

Craig Zobel, who directed the 2013 indie hit Compliance, directs from an adapted screenplay by Nissar Modi (Breaking at the Edge). Z for Zachariah was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, but we'll have to wait and see if early critical accolades will make this the indie breakout hit of the summer. Check out the first trailer below, and stay tuned for more on Z for Zachariah.
