Dallas Buyers Club screenwriter Craig Borten has signed on to write the screenplay for Inherit the Earth, an adaptation of the IDW comic book Zombies vs. Robots. Andrew Adamson (Shrek) has been attached to direct the project since January. J.T. Petty (Hellbenders 3D) and Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street) had previously worked on the script before Craig Borten came on board.

The original comic, created by Chris Ryall and Ashley Wood, was launched in 2005 by IDW. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies that has only one chance at recovery - a team of robots that must protect and clone a lone surviving human baby. They just need to do this amidst the endless hordes of zombies who have been driven rabid by their frustration at inedible bots and their lust to eat the one living brain left on the planet.

Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Bradley Fuller and Andrew Form are producing alongside Circle of Confusion's David Alpert and Rick Jacobs. No production schedule was given for Inherit the Earth at this time. Craig Borten received an Oscar nomination for co-writing Dallas Buyers Club with Melissa Wallack, and he also co-wrote the Chilean miner drama The 33, which will be released this fall by Alcon and Warner Bros. The writer also recently set up The Hunt for El Chapo at Universal, which follows the hunt for drug cartel leader Joaquin Guzman, and has Peter Berg attached to direct.
