Yesterday, Focus Features gave us a sneak peek at their new true-life drama The Zookeeper's Wife. Jessica Chastain and Daniel Bruhl star in the emotional drama based on the the non-fiction book by Diane Ackerman. Today, we get the full trailer, along with some never-before-scene photos.
The Zookeeper's Wife is the real-life story of one working wife and mother who became a hero to hundreds during World War II. In 1939 Poland, Antonina Żabińska (portrayed by two-time Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain) and her husband, Dr. Jan Żabiński (Johan Heldenbergh of "The Broken Circle Breakdown"), have the Warsaw Zoo flourishing under his stewardship and her care. When their country is invaded by the Nazis, Jan and Antonina are stunned - and forced to report to the Reich's newly appointed chief zoologist, Lutz Heck (Daniel Brühl of "Captain America: Civil War").
To fight back on their own terms, Antonina and Jan covertly begin working with the Resistance. They put into action plans to save lives out of what has become the Warsaw Ghetto. This means Antonina putting herself and even her children at great risk.
They gave all they could to save all they could. The Zookeeper's Wife is based on the true story from the international best-seller of the same name. Focus Features is set to open The Zookeeper's Wife on March 31, 2017. Niki Caro, who is best known for acclaimed films such as North Country, Whale Rider, and McFarland, USA, directs this harrowing adventure. The screenplay comes from War Bride writer Angela Workman based on Diane Ackerman's best-seller.
Johan Heldenbergh and Michael McElhatton also lead the cast in The Zookeeper's Wife. The movie is part of one big box office weekend on March 31. 20th Century Fox is debuting their animated comedy The Boss Baby featuring the voice of Alec Baldwin. And Paramount Pictures will finally unleash their epic Ghost in the Shell adaptation starring Scarlett Johansson. Zookeeper's Wife isn't without its competition.
