This week is going to the dogs on the DVD sales charts. 101 Dalmatians: Platinum Edition was the overwhelming winner on the DVD sales charts for the week ending March 2. This two-disc new edition of the Disney classic easily beat out two other new releases to take the crown away from last week's winner Beowulf, which finished third in the sales race.
Newcomer Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium finished in a distant second and Into the Wild debuted in fourth place.
Beowulf did manage to hold on to the rental title for the second consecutive week. The hybrid flick took in an estimated $9 million in rental revenue, pushing its two week rental total to $19.9 million. Into the Wild snagged the second spot in rentals with an estimated $8.8 million, which was almost half of what the film made in its theatrical run.
The high-def charts remained the same at the top, with 30 Days of Night remaining atop the Blu-Ray charts and Beowulf reclaiming the crown in HD DVD.
