2007 will go down in the records books for best domestic box office earnings of all time. According to Variety, more than $9.62 billion dollars worth of ticket sales were tallied in the U.S. alone.

2002 stands as the previous record holder, with 2007 seeing a 4% bump in ticket sales. This comes with ticket prices being down in price since 2002. In another first, all six major studios crossed the $1 billion mark at the domestic box office this year.

Paramount was the studio holding the most receipts at the end of 2007. They earned approximately $1.49 billion of the record take.
