20th Century Fox is putting an end to one of its specialty wings. According to Variety, Fox will be closing down its Fox Atomic brand this week.

The label was started in 2007 by Peter Rice and dedicated to comedies and genre films, but it was said that the label had been left vulnerable after its marketing division was absorbed back into Fox and Fox Searchlight in January 2008. Debbie Liebling, who headed up the label, will return as a Fox executive, developing comedies for the studio.

Fox Atomic produced such films as 28 Weeks Later, The Hills Have Eyes 2, Turistas, The Comebacks, The Rocker, Miss March and 12 Rounds. The brand also has two films in the pipeline, I Love You, Beth Cooper, due out July 10, and Jennifer's Body on September 18. Those films will now be released by 20th Century Fox.
