Sony Pictures is developing a 21 Jump Street Female Spinoff based on their lucrative 21 Jump Street franchise. No specific plot details were given, but the studio has hired Broad City writers Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs to write the screenplay. The spinoff will keep the same tone as 2012's 21 Jump Street and last year's sequel 22 Jump Street, which stars Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. The news also comes as Sony is developing an all-female Ghostbusters, which has Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon set to star.

The studio also has the straight up sequel 23 Jump Street in the works, along with a rumored 21 Jump Street/Men In Black crossover. It remains to be seen if Phil Lord and Chris Miller will be involved in the spinoff in any way, since they directed both 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street. One possibility for the female spinoff could be to bring back original 21 Jump Street stars Dakota Johnson and Rye Rye, who played undercover officers Fugazy and Jr. Jr., but they may also create brand new characters as well.

It's easy to see why Sony would want to expand this franchise even more. 21 Jump Street took in $201 million worldwide on just a $42 million budget, while 22 Jump Street earned $333 million from a $50 million budget. Would you watch a female spinoff of 21 Jump Street? Or do you think they should just make 23 Jump Street instead?
