21 Jump Street, the buddy cop action film starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum became a huge success upon its release in 2012. The two stars played police officers who must go undercover as high schoolers and cease the circulation of new synthetic drugs and ultimately arrest its supplier. Although based on crime and action, 21 Jump Street delivered comedy as the two try to fit in the high school and mingle with the kids despite their demeanor and obvious generational differences.

Fortunately, the gags and plot that carried 21 Jump Street resulted in the sequel, 22 Jump Street, which was equally iconic and took the pair to college. As the movie finished and end-credits roll in, Hill and Tatum’s characters are seen being a part of many other fictional sequels to the film: 24 Jump Street: Foreign Exchange Students, 25 Jump Street: A Semester At Sea, 26 Jump Street: Art School, and beyond. However, almost a decade since 22 Jump Street hit the theaters, there still has been no official news of 23 Jump Street despite continued rumors and rumblings. So, will the sequel ever happen?

The threequel of the infamous buddy cop film has finally surfaced online, and it comes with an abundance of details about the next film in the Jump Street club. Per CBR, Qmars Mootab (The Silent Pasture of Sparrows) will direct 23 Jump Street, and he will be accompanied by writer Michael Bacall and composer Mark Mothersbaugh. Both Tatum and Hill will reprise their roles as Schmidt and Jenko, alongside Ice Cube, who will reappear as Captain Dickson. Additionally, Brad Pitt is joining the cast as Dr. Johnnie Walker. Both Tatum and Pitt notably starred in the box-offic hit The Lost City earlier this year, demonstrating their comedic chops opposite each other. This will be good news for 23 Jump Street as expands on the comedy it previously brought in its predecessors.

Jenko and Schmidt are naturally expected to return with an epic adventure in 23 Jump Street as well as the addition of exciting new characters joining the script. As of this writing, not much has been shared about the film. In fact, the reason for the delay is that 23 Jump Street was initially meant to be a crossover with the rebooted Men in Black franchise. However, the idea proved to be a tough sell. This means 23 Jump Street is still likely in its early development phase.

Hill and Tatum play Schmidt and Jenko in this action comedy movie franchise, and while 23 Jump Street is going to happen someday, 24 Jump Street will officially be another stop for the police officers. In July 2021, Rodney Rothman, co-writer and co-director of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, shared with Hollywood Reporter that he had gotten on board to write and direct a sequel, which will be officially called 24 Jump Street. When asked why the jump from 22 Jump Street to 24 Jump Street, Rothman said, "It's taken us so long to pull together, we decided to skip over '23 Jump Street' and pick up the story one movie later."

Rothman had previously worked with Jump Street co-director Phil Lord on Spider-Verse, a hit among fans. Therefore, reuniting for another project will surely be a thrilling ride. In 2018, reports claimed that Tiiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) will star as an undercover high school teacher in 24 Jump Street, which is being developed as a women-led companion piece to the current Jump Street franchise. A year later, Zendaya (Euphoria) was also linked to the cast lineup alongside Haddish. There’s a possibility we'll see Haddish and Zendaya co-lead alongside Hill and Tatum in the film. However, as of now, Rothman and other crew members are yet to share more updates regarding it.
