Back in January, Fox confirmed that the network has given the green light for a new installment of their iconic series 24, entitled 24: Legacy. While many of the producers from the original 24 series are coming back, such as Howard Gordon, the show will feature an entirely new cast, without original 24 star Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer. The producers have hinted that Kiefer Sutherland may be open to returning in a much smaller role, perhaps a cameo, and it seems that may still happen.

Hitfix spoke with producer Howard Gordon at the ATX Television Festival, where the producer was honored for his work in television, including 24, Homeland and many more hit shows. While nothing seems to be set in stone yet, the producer teased that he would still like to see Jack Bauer return. Here's what the producer had to say below.

"I do think the character has life in him, whether it's a movie or if he intersects with this new iteration of 24. I sure would love to see him at some point on the show, and I don't think [Kiefer]'s ruled it out, either."

It's worth noting that, shortly after 24: Legacy was announced, Kiefer Sutherland said that 24 is "over" for him, and the franchise is moving on without him. However, earlier this year, he signed on as a producer, and teased that the script is great, hinting that he may actually come back as Jack Bauer. Fox issued a series order for the show back in May, with Fox eyeing a midseason premiere for the show.

Starring Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton), Miranda Otto (Homeland) and Jimmy Smits (Sons of Anarchy), 24: Legacy chronicles an adrenaline-fueled race against the clock to stop a devastating terrorist attack on United States soil - in the same real-time format that has propelled this genre-defining series. 24: Legacy is the next chapter in the groundbreaking and award-winning action series from Emmy Award-winning executive producer Howard Gordon (Homeland, 24: Live Another Day), Academy Award- and Emmy Award-winning executive producer Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind, 24), writers and executive producers Manny Coto and Evan Katz (24, 24: Live Another Day), director and executive producer Stephen Hopkins (24) and executive producer and original series star Kiefer Sutherland. Coto and Katz wrote the pilot script, which was directed by Stephen Hopkins, who will also serve as executive producer on the pilot and series. The original series was created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran.
