Earlier this month during the TCA winter tour, Fox announced a new 24 reboot entitled 24: Legacy, which won't feature original series star Kiefer Sutherland as the iconic Jack Bauer. The original report revealed that the network and producers are seeking either an African-American or a Latino actor to portray the lead character named Eric, and it seems the casting search is now over. Variety reports that the network has brought on Straight Outta Compton star Corey Antonio Hawkins to play Eric Carter.

The character is described as "tough and smart," coming from a rough neighborhood before turning his life around and joining the Army Rangers. When the series begins, Eric is back home in Virginia with his wife Nicole, who has yet to be cast, when he is pulled back into action as his past catches up with him. Our report from earlier this month revealed that he asks the CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.

At this time, Fox has only issued a pilot order, but this report claims that Fox is already eyeing a 13-episode season, although it isn't known when this potential new season will debut. The previous report also revealed that the show's producers are currently seeking an actress to play the female lead, a former head of the CTU. The show will also feature an entirely new cast of characters, but it isn't known if others from 24 or the event series, 24: Live Another Day, will return.

Howard Gordon (Homeland, 24), Manny Coto (24) and Evan Katz (24) will serve as executive producers. The project will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television, Imagine Television and Gordon's Teakwood Lane Productions. Production on the pilot is said to begin sometime this winter, with casting currently under way.

Aside from playing Dr. Dre in the critical and commercial hit Straight Outta Compton, Corey Antonio Hawkins most recently starred as Heath on AMC's The Walking Dead, which returns with the back half of its current season on February 14. He also recently signed on to star in Warner Bros.' Kong: Skull Island. What do you think about Corey Antonio Hawkins starring in 24: Legacy?
