Over a decade past the series finale of the hit Fox action drama 24, star Kiefer Sutherland says he's open to revisiting the fan favorite role of Jack Bauer once again. Starting in 2002, Sutherland played the iconic counter-terrorist agent for many years, turning Jack Bauer into one of pop culture's most beloved action heroes. Speaking about the role in this week's issue of People magazine, Sutherland revealed that he's still up for reprising the part if the right opportunity came along.

"If someone were to come up with a great idea, whether that's a great two-hour idea to make a film, or if it's a great season idea, I'm always open to that," Kiefer Sutherland said in the interview. "I love playing that character. I love that show. I love the people that I've worked with on it."

The 53-year-old continues, "It was one of the greatest gifts of a lifetime... As long as I felt capable of delivering and improving the legacy of the show, then I would always be open to it. And at this point in my life, I am. Making a television show or making a film is a team sport and requires all of the players to get back together. So, we'll see what happens."

Created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran, 24 was a story told in "real time." Each season would consist of 24 episodes, taking place over a single 24-hour period. After spending eight straight years playing protagonist Jack Bauer between 2002 and 2010, Sutherland came back to play him once again for a ninth season, dubbed 24: Live Another Day. He also played Jack in the TV movie 24: Redemption. Although he served as an executive producer, Sutherland did not make an appearance as Jack on 24: Legacy, the short-lived spinoff series that was axed after one season in 2017.

These days, Sutherland stars on the Quibi adaptation of The Fugitive. A modern update to the classic television series and the 1993 movie with Harrison Ford, the first season premiered on the Quibi streaming service earlier this month. This time, the lead character -- played by Boyd Holbrook -- winds up falsely accused of a heinous crime due to a misunderstanding on social media. "Here's a guy who's being prosecuted on the news, on social media to the degree that an entire city is after a guy who hasn't done what he's being accused of doing, and you're going to root for him," Sutherland says of The Fugitive reboot.

It remains to be seen if a new version of 24 will ever come to fruition, or if Sutherland will be back to play Jack Bauer once more. After the cancellation of Legacy in 2017, it was reported that Fox would develop another iteration of the riveting action series, but the franchise seems to have stalled in the years since. Given what happened with Legacy and Sutherland's continued interest in reprising the classic role, it would seem more likely than not that the next potential 24 project would bring back Jack Bauer.
