Earlier this month, 24 and 24: Live Another Day producer Howard Gordon confirmed plans for a 24 Spin-Off, which will have a new lead character and bring Kiefer Sutherland back to guest star as Jack Bauer. Fox reportedly plans on launching the 24 spinoff as a limited series, much like what the network did with 24: Live Another Day. Kiefer Sutherland revealed in a new interview that he has no interest in coming back to star in a whole new series, but he is open to a cameo appearance:
"I'm not coming back to do 24 because there are other things I want to do. And when they said limited-series run, I meant it. But I've always felt, from Season 1 on, that 24 is such a great idea that this can go on forever. I think if you create a new cast or other characters in the telling of this story, it will bring a freshness. And let's face it there's only so many bad days one can have before the show becomes a mad comic. And what I don't want it to be is a mad comic...it doesn't rule out to one having a cameo."
Kiefer Sutherland's statement shouldn't come as much of a surprise, since he revealed in December that he didn't see himself coming back to the Jack Bauer role, but then added he could always change his mind. As for the spinoff, it will follow a new male counter-terrorist agent who works alongside a veteran female agent. The lead female character will not be Kate Morgan, played by Yvonne Strahovski, but it's possible she could return for the spinoff as well. Original 24 writers/producers Manny Coto and Evan Katz are currently working on the script and they will also executive producer alongside Howard Gordon. There have also been rumblings about a /24-movie-kiefer-sutherland-jack-bauer/24 movie, but it isn't known if that project is in active development or not.
