Austin Stoker, star of the original Assault on Precinct 13 and Battle for the Planet of the Apes, has joined the cast of 3 from Hell, the upcoming sequel to The Devil's Rejects. Rob Zombie, who is currently filming the third installment of his House of 1000 Corpses trilogy, made the announcement via an Instagram post. He didn't reveal who Stoker will be playing in the sequel, but his role is significant enough that Zombie singled him out. Here's what the director had to say about the casting.
"Casting news: Austin Stoker star of Assault on Precinct 13, Battle for the Planet of the Apes, Sheba, Baby and Airport 75 has joined the cast of 3 FROM HELL. #robzombie #3fromhell #austinstoker"
The core trio of notoriously brutal murderers, Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig) Baby (Sheri Moon Zombie) and Otis (Bill Moseley) are all set to reprise their roles in 3 From Hell. Austin Stoker is one of the only other cast members confirmed for the movie, but we should expect more information to come since the movie is already into production. It's also worth noting that Zombie included a photo of Stoker in a police uniform in his post. Perhaps he'll be playing a cop who is trying to catch the Firefly Family as they continue their string of grisly murders?
Rob Zombie began filming 3 From Hell a few days ago and has been very active on social media throughout the process. We learned that the movie is already in production from Zombie's social media posts. Though, there had been rumors circulating online a few months prior to the announcement that stated Zombie's next movie would be Devil's Rejects 2. In another social media update, he posted a behind-the-scenes set photo that reveals Zombie crafting some of the "madness" that's coming our way.
"Day 3 shooting 3 From Hell. Sitting at the monitors figuring out the next moment of madness! #3fromhell #robzombie"
Currently, 3 From Hell is largely mysterious, despite the social media activity from the movie's director. At the end of The Devil's Rejects, Captain Spaulding, Baby and Otis were met with a barrage of gunfire in a rather epic and memorable scene. But it also seemed certain the trio died in that scene. So that raises questions about how they're going to return in this sequel. However, the title implies, and it's been speculated, that this movie will be taking a bit of a supernatural turn and that they will actually be coming back from hell to murder some more on Earth.
As a director, much of Rob Zombie's work has been polarizing, but The Devil's Rejects is considered by many to be his best movie to date. So even though we haven't seen these characters on screen for more than a decade, if he can pull this off, 3 From Hell could be an exciting end to an improbable horror trilogy.
