Warner Home Video (WHV) is bringing three very different portrayals of Edgar Rice Burroughs' famed "Lord of the Apes" to DVD on June 8. The most beloved "classic" Tarzan adventures are found in a four-disc set featuring all six Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan films on three discs, with a fourth disc of extra content, including the new documentary "Silver Screen: King of the Jungle." The "modern epic" Tarzan arrives in a 20th Anniversary all-new digital transfer DVD with "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes," starring Christopher Lambert and Andie MacDowell. The last of the trio is the "erotic" Tarzan -- the 1981 remake of "Tarzan The Ape Man," featuring Bo Derek and Miles O'Keeffe.
"The Tarzan Collection starring Johnny Weissmuller" will sell for $59.92 SRP; "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes" and "Tarzan The Ape Man" will be priced at $19.97 SRP.
All six of the Weissmuller/O'Sullivan M-G-M movies are being offered on "The Tarzan Collection starring Johnny Weissmuller" four-disc set which will arrive just in time to commemorate the anniversary of Johnny Weissmuller's 100th Birthday. The six features -- "Tarzan The Ape Man," "Tarzan And His Mate," "Tarzan Escapes," "Tarzan Finds A Son!," "Tarzan's Secret Treasure," "Tarzan's New York Adventure" -- are presented on three discs, with a fourth disc exclusively devoted to the bonus features.
"Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of The Apes" is an extraordinary saga that explores the dual nature of Tarzan as he struggles to repress his wild jungle instincts and become the civilized heir to an Earldom.
"Tarzan The Ape Man," the highly provocative version of the original Tarzan story, is told from Jane's point of view.
