Some are still buzzing with energy, while others are a little sad that it's all over for another year. There are even those dour sourpusses who feel this year was nothing but lackluster. Even if that's the case, Comic-Con 2014 wasn't without its surprises. Maybe there weren't as many as in years past. And the fact that neither Marvel nor DC announced any of its upcoming titles still stings. But, dang that footage! Both studios are clearly on the path to releasing two of the biggest movies of all time! It's clear that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Avengers: Age of Ultron will be vying to knock Avatar off its perch as the top grossing movie of all time. But seeing the latest and first footage from these superhero behemoths wasn't the only fun studios had with their fans and ever-expanding audience. There were a couple of curveballs thrown in the mix that truly knocked us for a loop. We definitely didn't see the return of King Kong and Ash coming. Check out the 9 biggest surprises of Comic-Con 2014!

1Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice First Footage

Batman v Superman

Most fans expected something from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but they weren't sure what. While it was disappointing that DC and Warner Bros. didn't reveal their upcoming slate, or whom Dwayne Johnson is playing in Shazam!, director Zack Snyder did show up with cast members Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot to show a tease of footage that features Kal-El and Bruce Wayne interacting on screen for the first time. It electrified the crowd, and even introduced cool new armor for Batman, with a cowl that features glowing eyes! 2Mad Max: Fury Road Trailer

Mad Max Fury Road

No one really knew what to expect from Mad Max: Fury Road. But director George Miller, creator of the franchise and the man behind the first three movies, unspooled the first trailer to an audience that claimed it the best footage from the Con! Yes, fan reaction was even more positive than what DC and Marvel garnered. With in-camera stunts, plenty of action, and a seriously warped tone, this hybrid sequel/reboot grabbed the attention of fans that were nonplused before its release. Warner Bros. debuted the footage online shortly after it played to the capacity crowd inside Hall H. If you missed it: /mad-max-fury-road-trailer-starring-tom-hardy-and-charlize-theron/CLICK HERE

3Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman Revealed

Wonder Woman Gal Gadot

Batman Vs. Superman footage wasn't the only thing director Zack Snyder brought to Hall H. He also debut the first look at Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Standing against a harsh backdrop of brimstone and debris, the mighty Amazon warrior proudly displays her sword for all to see. And it seemed to go over well with the crowd, until later side-by-side comparisons exposed her as a true Xena: Warrior Princess wannabe. But that begs the old chicken or the egg question: Which came first. Either way, seeing Wonder Woman as she will look in her first big screen iteration was pretty exciting (though I think most of us saw it coming). 4 Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah to star in Godzilla 2

Godzilla 2

No one was expecting Legendary to unveil its entire monster line-up for the anticipated sequel Godzilla 2. But they laid it all out on the table, confirming that the big green lizard will fight three iconic Kaiju when he returns to the big screen in 2018. The classic Toho monsters include Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah! Gareth Edwards was also double confirmed to be directing this sequel, though we already knew that. He will go to work as soon as he finishes making one of the Star Wars: Episode VII spin-off movies. 5 King Kong to Return in Skull Island

King Kong

No one saw this coming. And weirdly, a lot of people didn't care. But we love that King Kong is going to return in Skull Island. And its coming from the same team that made Godzilla, one of the more well-received movies released this summer. Skull Island will tell the big gorilla's origin story and feature the massive monsters that live on Kong's home turf. No director has been revealed yet, and its not clear if there will be any human cast members. But we did get a release date. We'll all be heading to Skull Island on November 4, 2016! 6Bruce Campbell to Star in Evil Dead TV Series

Evil Dead TV Series

Another huge surprise that slipped out at one of the panels was the fact that Sam Raimi and Ted Raimi are developing an Evil Dead TV series. And Bruce Campbell will be starring as the lead! He confirmed the news, though only hinting at his return as Ash with a piece of promo art. No further details have been released at this time, but its believed that what started as Army of Darkness 2 has ballooned into a 12 hour epic that may debut on Netflix with all its viscera and raining blood in tact! 7Biz Markie Performs 'Just a Friend' with Channing Tatum

Book of Life Biz Markie

Its not clear how excited people actually are for Guillermo del Toro's animated adventure The Book of Life, but the movie managed to have one of the most talked about panels at Comic-Con, simply because it brought legendary rapper Biz Markie out on stage to perform his hit song 'Just a Friend', which is featured as one of the movie's main musical numbers. Channing Tatum even jumped in at one point to dance along. To watch the performance: /comic-con-biz-markie-performs-just-a-friend-at-book-of-life-panel/CLICK HERE

8The Sinister Six and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 Announce Release Dates

Spider Man 3 and The Sinister 6

Ever since The Amazing Spider-Man 2 failed to live up to expectations at the box office, and disappointed the core fan base, there has been much speculation as to where the franchise is heading next. No one expected Sony to kick off the Con with a release date announcement, confirming that The Sinister Six will arrive first, hitting theaters on November 11, 2016. This will be followed by The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which is being delayed all the way until 2018! Here's hoping they get their shit fixed this time! 9 Leaked Photo of The Thing from The Fantastic Four reboot

The Fantastic Four The Thing

Many thought 20th Century Fox would bring the cast of The Fantastic Four on stage, or show a tease of footage. Something. But the movie was mysteriously absent from the convention center. To help tide over disappointed fans, one disgruntled crewmember decided to tweet out an image of The Thing. Okay, so it's sculpt being used as a lighting reference and for the actors to bounce their lines off of. But we hear it's close to what we'll be seeing on screen. We'll get in trouble if we show you here. But you can see The Thing for yourself: /leaked-photo-of-the-thing-in-fantastic-four-reboot/CLICK HERE

That's it for Comic-Con 2014. Those were the big-ticket items. We didn't include the Avengers: Age of Ultron footage, because that wasn't really a surprise. Entertainment Weekly told us what we were probably going to see a couple of weeks ago, and they were right! What do you think? Are you excited for any of these? Did we miss something you fell in love with? Let us know?
