When the dust finally settled over Watchmen, and whether the film would be released and who would own how much of it, what remained unclear was who was to blame. According to The Hollywood Reporter, attorneys for producer Larry Gordon and Warner Brothers are meeting in a confidential, nonbinding mediation session with mediator Daniel Weinstein.
At the heart of the issue is who is to blame for not ensuring that the rights were fully secured from Fox before the film began production. As a result, the question is who is going to be forced to pay Fox.
The only semi-bright spot in this is the fact that Watchmen severely underperformed at the box-office, and as a result, Fox is only going to end up with roughly 5% of the film's proceeds, according to sources familiar with the wording of the settlement.
