Ahead of the premiere on Netflix, the trailer and key art have arrived to provide a sneak peek at the feature film. You can watch the trailer below.

The official synopsis for the movie is as follows: "A sweeping tale of forbidden love, A Jazzman's Love unspools forty years of secrets and lies soundtracked by juke joint blues in the deep South."

Tyler Perry wrote, directed, and produced A Jazzman's Blues, which will make its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday, Sept. 11. The movie stars Joshua Boone, Amirah Vann, Solea Pfeiffer, Austin Scott, Milauna Jemai Jackson, Brent Antonello, Brad Benedict, Kario Marcel, Lana Young, and Ryan Eggold.

The trailer and movie feature singer-songwriter Ruth B.'s brand-new original song "Paper Airplanes." The song was co-written with multi-Grammy winner Terence Blanchard, and was released today alongside the trailer (and can be listened to here). It's set to be a thematically integral part of the film and will also be featured on the upcoming soundtrack for A Jazzman's Blues, which will be released on Milan Records. Tyler Perry previously previewed A Jazzman's Blues at the Martha's Vineyard African American Film Fest in August. The filmmaker described the movie as a passion project that he's long been excited to finally bring to audiences.

“I have waited a quarter of a century to tell this story, and now is the perfect time and Netflix is the perfect partner," Perry recently said. That is my labor of love; the one that I want to do more than anything.”

On social media, he had also stated, "About 26 years ago, I was struggling and not sure if I would be able to break into the entertainment business. I had managed to sneak into (cause I was broke) a play called Seven Guitars, and I got a chance to speak with the great August Wilson at an after-party. I didn’t know how he would receive me because the kind of plays I was doing weren’t Broadway, but he was so kind, encouraging, and inspiring that I went home and wrote my very first screenplay. I called it A Jazzman’s Blues.”

A Jazzman's Blues is set to start streaming on Netflix on Sept. 23, 2022. Subscribers can stream the film at Netflix.com.
