New episodes of Prime Video's series adaptation of A League of Their Own are on the way. It's being reported by Deadline that a second season of the show is in the works, but it comes with the caveat that season 2 will also serve as the final season. Season 2 will also come with half the episodes, spanning four episodes long compared to the eight from season 1. While a shortened final season is not typically ideal for TV shows, the renewal will allow for the writers to put a bow on the series by wrapping up the story.

A League of Their Own is inspired by the 1992 movie of the same title. Set in the early 1940s, the series chronicles the formation of a new team, the Rockford Peaches, in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. Leading the cast are Abbi Jacobson as a small-town woman with dreams of going big in baseball alongside Chante Adams as an African-American woman fighting against the racial prejudices of the era to land a spot on a baseball team.

The series adaptation is created by Will Graham and Jacobson. The two serve as executive producers alongside Hailey Wierengo, Jamie Babbit, and Desta Tedros Reff. Michael Cedar, James Dodson, and Michelle Badillo produced. Along with Jacobson and Adams, the series also stars D'Arcy Carden, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Roberta Colindrez, Kelly McCormack, Priscilla Delgado, Molly Ephraim, Melanie Field, and Kate Berlant. Names like Nick Offerman, Rosie O'Donnell, and Nancy Lenehan have also been featured as guest stars in season 1.

Star and co-creator Abbi Jacobson has previously teased what fans can expect in a second season. Last year, after the first season was released, Jacobson said they had some ideas in mind for season 2, though they were still waiting for word on a renewal to get started. While season 2 will be the end, Jacobson must be happy to know that her character's story arc won't be left hanging as it is in the end of season 1.

"We have rough ideas of what the show looks like as a bigger picture broadly," she said, via TheWrap. "This is a big ensemble, and I think the show is always going to juggle these two worlds back and forth with Carson and Max at the helm of those two worlds. I hope we did a really good job of making all of our ensemble feel like full people and characters you’re invested in, but I think moving into a season 2, we would definitely want to lean into some characters that didn’t get as much attention as others in season 1."

She added, "There’s a lot more story to be told with all of our characters, and just leaning into some of the ensemble that we haven’t so far. And then in terms of my character, I mean, we left on quite a cliffhanger."

You can stream the first season of A League of Their Own streaming on Prime Video. Season 2 does not yet have a premiere date.
