Is A Quiet Place really a secret Cloverfield sequel? Probably not, but that hasn't stopped one fan from concocting a new theory that has peeked some interest amongst monster loves and thrill seekers. The Cloverfield franchise has been full of surprises, starting with that mysterious trailer with no title that was attached to the first Transformers movie in the summer of 2007, ahead of the first Cloverfield movie's January 2008 release. Since then, movies such as The Cellar and God Particle were ultimately revealed to be 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) and A Cloverfield Paradox (2018), with other movies such as Overlord and Kolma believed to be part of the Cloverfield franchise as well. Today we have word of a new fan theory that claims Paramount's upcoming thriller A Quiet Place is actually a Cloverfield movie too.
This theory first surfaced before it was even confirmed that God Particle was The Cloverfield Paradox, with a YouTube video from TheCookFilms entitled Could A Quiet Place Be the Next Cloverfield Movie? surfacing on January 8. The video was inexplicably removed, which could lend credence to this theory, laying out a number of details that show how A Quiet Place could be connected to the Cloverfield universe. One of the most intriguing tidbits is that A Quiet Place star and director John Krasinski was originally supposed to star in God Particle/The Cloverfield Paradox before bowing out for unknown reasons, and it has been reported that Krasinski is close personal friends with J.J. Abrams.
One of the biggest strikes against this theory, however, is that, unlike Cloverfield, 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Cloverfield Paradox, A Quiet Place is not a Bad Robot Productions movie, although the film is being distributed by Paramount, like the first two films. Still, others claim that this is all part of the ruse, with the Bad Robot name supposedly being left off on purpose, to throw fans off, since fans have started to theorize that many Bad Robot projects may actually be secret Cloverfield movies in disguise. If this is true, it's possible that the Bad Robot name won't be revealed at all until A Quiet Place opens in theaters on April 6.
A Quiet Place centers on a family (John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe, Millicent Simmonds) who live a solitary life in an isolated house in the woods. They live in complete and utter silence, in fear of a mysterious creature that lives in the woods and goes on the attack when any sound is made. While this creature has not been shown in the movie, the original A Quiet Place trailer, at the 0:29 second mark, there are some massive claw marks on the wall, and at the 0:50 second mark, John Krasinski's character takes off running in the forest, to draw attention away from his family, after an electronic toy is set off that gets the creature's attention.
The trailer shows that Krasinski's character is being chased by something that is practically invisible in the woods, although some fans have posited that it could be the four-legged "Jaguar" alien from 10 Cloverfield Lane. The final clue comes at the 1:46 mark of the A Quiet Place trailer, where an alien tendril/arm is seen just behind Emily Blunt's character, as she relaxes in the bath, which looks quite similar to the tendrils from the 10 Cloverfield Lane spaceship. There is also speculation that the Molly character from The Cloverfield Paradox, whose is played by an actress called 'Clover Nee', is believed to be part of the family in A Quiet Place, and they got separated. While none of this has been confirmed, you can take a look at the trailer for A Quiet Place below, and head over to Dread Central for more on this intriguing theory.
