Although it was almost guaranteed, A Quiet Place Part III is now officially coming in 2025 following the release of a spinoff movie next year directed by Michael Sarnoski. Slipped in among the many big announcements during the Paramount Investor Day presentation, the studio finally confirmed the long-standing rumor that John Krasinski would be returning to produce a second direct sequel to the 2018 smash horror hit A Quiet Place along with Michael Bay. It is expected that Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe will all reprise their roles to continue the story of the Abbott family’s attempts to stay alive in a world of sonically superior aliens.

Although there were no specific details revealed during the announcement, there will be a lot of expectation on both new movies doing well when they are released. A Quiet Place arrived in 2018 as one of those movies that take the budget it is given and makes something that captures the public’s attention. Featuring very little soundtrack or dialogue for most of its 90-minute runtime, the film was a pretty unique prospect with audiences barely daring to breathe as Krasinski, Blunt and their family were hunted by unseen creatures. Taking over $350 million, a sequel was immediately given the greenlight, but ended up being hugely delayed by the Covid Pandemic.

When A Quiet Place Part II was finally released in May 2021 it became one of the first movies since the pandemic began to take over $100 million at the box office, ending its run on $297 million before it moved to streaming on Paramount+, where it proved another hit for the streaming platform. Before the second movie could be released, the wheels had already been set in motion for a spinoff movie based on an idea by Krasinski to be written by Jeff Nichols. That movie will be set in the same universe as the main timeline, and is believed to run in parallel to the first two movies.

Following the release of A Quiet Place Part II, Emily Blunt revealed that her husband Krasinski was working on a new script for another sequel that would complete a trilogy of movies about the Abbott family. While the spinoff movie, and planned video games, will expand on the Quiet Place universe, A Quiet Place Part III should be a movie that brings in the biggest audiences of the franchise, if it can avoid pushing its need to be bigger and better too far.

Horror sequels frequently lose sight of what made them popular in the first place, and with A Quiet Place, the mostly unseen threat and unique need for silence throughout the movie were an irresistible combination. However, once you get beyond the gimmick, the new sequel could feel the need to bring the aliens to be the focus of the film, and that would be a mistake. Krasinski seems to have a definite vision for the franchise though, which should give Paramount another hit when A Quiet Place Part III arrives in 2025.
