Darcey Bell's acclaimed mystery novel will return to the screen in the highly anticipated sequel to A Simple Favor. The 2018 film, directed by 2016 Ghostbusters director Paul Feige, will continue to tell its story with its lead stars Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick returning to play Emily Nelson and Stephanie Smothers.

Announced in mid-2022, the sequel has been in development for some time now, and finally, there is some news about it. Thanks to a report from People Magazine, some plot details were revealed, as well as the possible filming start date. The movie will be set in Capri, Italy, with the director returning too, with shooting set to start this fall.

The sequel comes from Lionsgate and Amazon Studios, though there isn't any word on if the project will be another big-screen release or direct-to-stream on Prime Video. Jessica Sharzer is also coming back to write the screenplay.

What Can We Expect From A Simple Favor 2?

A Simple Favor (2018) Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Blake Lively)
Feigco Entertainment

In the first movie, Stephanie is a single mom with a vlog on parenting and home life who befriends Emily. This is a mysterious upper-class woman who has a son in the same elementary school as the protagonist's daughter, which brings them together in the first place. When Emily goes missing, Stephanie investigates the truth behind her sudden disappearance. However, she will end up submerged in a web of conflicts and lies much bigger than she imagined.

The end of the movie saw Stephanie making it big with her mystery-solving blog, starting a new career focused on her newfound talent. Emily was sentenced to prison for her part, and the outcome showed us Lively's character willing to take over her new environment as she did with everything around her.

The sequel will surely have the protagonists meeting again and involved in a new game of secrets and lies, either involving them directly or with a new story related to other characters, considering Stephanie's new life. Another one who could be a key piece in the new puzzle is Sean, played by Henry Golding, although at the moment, it has not been confirmed if the actor will return to accompany Lively and Kendrick in the sequel. Unfortunately, there is no reference material for this new story, as Bell's novel was the only one and had no sequel to draw stories from.
