A24 has released the official trailer for Men, a mind-bending horror film starring Jessie Buckley. Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Devs) has written and directed the movie. Men marks Garland’s return to feature films after four years. He last directed the acclaimed 2018 sci-fi thriller Annihilation. In Men, Jessie Buckley plays Harper, a young woman reeling from the loss of her ex-husband who takes a solo trip to the English countryside. You can check out the trailer of Men below.

The short and cryptic trailer doesn’t reveal much about the movie, besides that Harper is being stalked by a shadowy figure. The clip opens with Harper walking towards a tunnel in the serene woods but soon gets more and more creepy and mysterious. And in line with Alex Garland’s previous movies, Men too boasts vibrant, stunning visuals. Rory Kinnear (Penny Dreadful, Spectre) and Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You, Gangs of London) also star in the film. A24 has released the following synopsis for Men.

"In the aftermath of a personal tragedy, Harper (Jessie Buckley) retreats alone to the beautiful English countryside, hoping to have found a place to heal. But someone or something from the surrounding woods appears to be stalking her. What begins as simmering dread becomes a fully-formed nightmare, inhabited by her darkest memories and fears in visionary filmmaker Alex Garland's feverish, shape-shifting new horror film."

Irish actress Jessie Buckley has taken Hollywood by storm. She’s been a part of acclaimed movies and TV shows like I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Beast, Fargo, and Chernobyl. She recently starred in The Lost Daughter, earning herself a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at this year’s Academy Awards. With Alex Garland in the director’s chair, and with A24 backing the film, Men promises to be another twisty, mind-bending horror thriller with a star-making performance by Jessie Buckley.

Men is slated for release on May 20, 2022.

Alex Garland Will Next Be Directing Kristen Dunst in Sci-Fi Action Film Civil War

Alex Garland rose to fame for directing the 2014 sci-fi film Ex Machina. Starring Oscar Isaac, Alicia Vikander, and Domhnall Gleeson, Ex Machina received critical acclaim, earning several accolades, and is now considered one of the best films of the decade. Alex Garland next partnered with Netflix for Annihilation, which was another visually stunning sci-fi horror. After a brief sting in television, creating the brilliant FX original series Devs, Garland is reteaming with A24 for his next film, Civil War.

Set in a near-future America, Civil War is described as an action epic and stars Kristen Dunst (Fargo), Wagner Moura (Narcos), Stephen Henderson (Dune), and Cailee Spaeny (Pacific Rim: Uprising). Plot details are being kept under wraps, and there is currently no word on when Civil War will be released. But Alex Garland returning to the action genre (having written 2012’s Dredd) does bode well for Civil War.
