Hazbin Hotel has a release date and guest cast! In the continued spirit of Thanksgiving, Prime Video is showing its appreciation to Hazbin Hotel fans by revealing the premiere date for season one of the highly anticipated adult animated musical comedy. Episodes will be available to stream exclusively on Prime Video beginning January 19, 2024. Hazbin Hotel made its debut on YouTube in 2019 as a pilot by Vivienne Medrano, popularly known as VivziePop. As an animator, illustrator, comic creator, and voice actress, Medrano comes from a Salvadoran American background. She is also known for creating the adult animated series Helluva Boss. In 2020, production company A24 acquired the production, intending to make it into a long-form TV series, and now we're almost at its release date. The synopsis reads as follows:

"Hazbin Hotel follows Charlie, the princess of Hell, as she pursues her seemingly impossible goal of rehabilitating demons to peacefully reduce overpopulation in her kingdom. After a yearly extermination imposed by angels, she opens a hotel in the hopes that patrons will be "checking out" into Heaven. While most of Hell mocks her goal, her devoted partner Vaggie, and their first test subject, adult-film star Angel Dust, stick by her side. When a powerful entity known as the "Radio Demon" reaches out to assist Charlie in her endeavors, her crazy dream is given a chance to become a reality."

In true Broadway fashion, Prime Video began announcing the new guest stars via the marquee at the iconic Pantages Theatre in Hollywood this morning, and will continue to do so until 6pm PT. The guest cast for season one includes Broadway veterans Darren Criss (Saint Peter), Jeremy Jordan (Lucifer Morningstar), Daphne Rubin-Vega (Carmilla Carmine), Patina Miller (Sera), and Jessica Vosk (Lute). They will join the stacked lineup of previously announced main cast including Erika Henningsen, Stephanie Beatriz, Alex Brightman, Keith David, Kimiko Glenn, Blake Roman, Amir Talai, Christian Borle, and Joel Perez. The series will feature original music and lyrics from platinum-certified artist Sam Haft and Emmy-nominated Andrew Underberg.

Lucifer's a Hazbin

This news comes almost exactly one year since the Hazbin Hotel Twitter account posted the first glimpse of Lucifer Morningstar, King of Hell. He is the father of the show's leading character, Charlie. Lucifer appears in the tweet wearing a white tuxedo and sitting on a red-and-black throne decorated with feathers and scary-looking eyes. Additionally, he is surrounded by a pile of rubber ducks and brightly colored lights.

Hazbin Hotel doesn't necessarily have Lucifer as its primary antagonist, despite his status as the King of Hell. The character has received little details on his role in the show. Still, he is described as "very silly and goofy" by Medrano and Faustisse, the former Hazbin Hotel visual developer.

It's clear that Lucifer isn't the kindest father, but he still cares about Charlie and doesn't want her hotel plan to fail. In contrast, Charlie's sinister and dark image of her father could indicate the exact opposite. Also, Lucifer might be considered an antihero in the story; even though he is not necessarily against Charlie, his actions could impede her progress.
