ABC is taking a piece of Disney's High School Musical franchise by developing a multi-episode reality competition themed to the High School Musical concept.

According to Variety, a nationwide talent hunt will seek contestants who will then study at a music conservatory to hone their skills. Contestants will be eliminated each week until a final winning performer is chosen. The reality series will include plenty of High School Musical-themed moments -- likely with appearances by the franchise's stars.

The targeted airdate for the High School Musical reality series is scheduled for this summer.
