The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has made a few announcements in regard to the 95th Academy Awards scheduled to be held next year. Moving the ceremony date a little up in comparison to this year, the 2023 Oscars will take place on March 12, 2023. The 2022 Oscars took place on March 27, 2023.

This would be the third ceremony in a row to not take place during its established February schedule. It was in 2004 that the Oscars began taking place in February. In 2020, the ceremony movies up the ceremony to the second Sunday of February; however, the pandemic changed things the next year. The 2021 Oscars ceremony took place on April 25, 2021, and saw several changes in the selection process for nominees. Now that the ceremony has gradually moved up in the past two years, it seems that the Academy will shift to its previous February schedule by 2024.

The ceremony will be telecast on ABC, official partners with the Academy. The Academy also announced (via The Playlist) that the nominations voting will begin on January 12, 2023, and will end on January 17, 2023. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce on January 24, 2023.

For the past two ceremonies, the Academy has toned down its qualification requirements and has allowed streaming releases to be eligible for contending, in case those films were earlier scheduled for theatrical release. However, for the 95th Academy Awards, the Academy intends to revert to the previous guidelines now that the theater operations in the United States are up and running at full capacity.

The 2022 Oscars were in news for all the unwanted reasons despite registering some historic wins, including the Best Picture for CODA. However, the ceremony viewership went up after a record low rating for the 2020 ceremony. Before the next year’s Oscars ceremony, the Academy will appoint a new President and a Chief Executive Officer for Dawn Hudson and David Rubin will fulfill their terms by the end of this summer.

There’s no news as to the format of the ceremony, but the venue for the event will remain the Dolby Theater, Los Angeles, California. Further announcements about the ceremony host and other eligibility criterion changes (if any) may follow in the coming weeks.
