”The Eyes of Don Bachardy” and “In the Realms of the Unreal,” which each focus on individual artists, will be screened for the February 22 installment of the Contemporary Documentary Series, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Academy Foundation and the UCLA Film and Television Archive. Free and open to the public, the screening begins at 7:30 p.m. in the James Bridges Theater on the UCLA campus.

Directed and produced by Terry Sanders, “The Eyes of Don Bachardy” is a detailed and intimate look at the mysterious relationship between the artist, his subject and the richly intimate creative journey his process takes.

“In the Realms of the Unreal” is an exploration of the enigmatic life of reclusive Chicago janitor Henry Darger, who left behind a 15,000-page, beautifully illustrated novel that is considered an achievement of extraordinary individual creativity, even though its ultimate meaning remains elusive. The film was directed by Jessica Yu, who also produced with Susan West.

The James Bridges Theater is located in Westwood on the northeast corner of the UCLA campus, near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Hilgard Avenue. Parking is available for $8 in Lot 3, adjacent to the theater. For more information, call 310-247-3600 or 310-206-FILM.
