After bringing the iconic superhero Batman back to life on the big screen this spring with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Ben Affleck takes on a much more sinister role this fall in Warner Bros.' The Accountant. The studio released the first trailer for this thriller today, which shows Ben Affleck playing a brilliant math genius who is leading a dangerous double life. This thriller could end up being one of the hottest movies hitting theaters this fall, with Ben Affleck leading a stellar cast that also includes Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons.

The trailer from Warner Bros. UK YouTube showcases Christian Wolff (Affleck), a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world's most dangerous criminal organizations. With the Treasury Department's Crime Enforcement Division, run by Ray King (J.K. Simmons), starting to close in, Christian takes on a legitimate client: a state-of-the-art robotics company where an accounting clerk (Anna Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars.

But as Christian uncooks the books and gets closer to the truth, it is the body count that starts to rise. The supporting cast also includes Seth Lee, Jon Bernthal, Alison Wright, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Tambor, Cynthia Addai Robinson and Gregory Alan Williams. This thriller will hit theaters on October 14, where it will face plenty of diverse competition. The Accountant will be going up against the concert film Kevin Hart: What Now, Focus Features' fantasy drama A Monster Calls and Sony's Underworld: Blood Wars. It will also arrive a week after the highly-anticipated adaptation The Girl On the Train on October 7, and Jack Reacher 2, Ouija 2 and Boo! A Madea Halloween on October 21.

Gavin O'Connor (Warrior) directs from a script by Bill Dubuque, who made his feature screenwriting debut with 2014's drama The Judge, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall. Mark Williams produces with Gavin O'Connor, Jamie Patricof, Lynette Howell Taylor and Marty P. Ewing serving as executive producers. We'll have to wait and see if this movie will be as successful as Ben Affleck's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which has made $868 million worldwide since its release on March 25.

Ben Affleck will reprise his role as Batman in this summer's Suicide Squad, and he is also in post-production on his next directorial effort, Live By Night, which is set for release on October 20, 2017. Anna Kendrick most recently starred in Get a Job and Mr. Right, and she will next be seen in the summer comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, which is set for release on July 8.
