Sony Pictures has set a May 15, 2015 release date for Pixels, which stars Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage and Michelle Monaghan. The adventure will be going up against Warner Bros.' Mad Max: Fury Road and Universal's Pitch Perfect 2.

The story centers on four video game champions who are recruited by the U.S. government, after a species of aliens misinterpret video feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them. They mount an attack on New York City, using these games as the basis for their strategy.

Chris Columbus is directing from a script by Tim Herlihy and Timothy Dowling, based on the 2010 short film of the same name, directed by Patrick Jean. Happy Madison's Adam Sandler and Allen Covert are producing alongside 1492 Pictures' Chris Columbus, Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe. Production is scheduled to begin next month.
