After Life is a hit. The Ricky Gervais sitcom debuted on Netflix earlier this year, and apparently fans can't get enough of it. The show has been renewed for season 2, and it will be back sometime next year with all-new, sure to be hilarious yet heartfelt, episodes. Ricky Gervais had this to say about the announcement.

"I have never had a reaction like this before. It's been insane. And heartwarming. But now I have to make sure the second season is even better so I'll probably have to work much harder than usual. Annoying really."

Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer for Netflix, is also extremely pleased with the way the show has been received in its first season in his streaming empire. He says this about the renewal.

"After Life has moved audiences from laughter to tears around the world and we are thrilled to announce that Ricky Gervais will be back with a second season on Netflix. We are so proud to play host to Ricky's brilliant stand up comedy, specials, original films, and series and join in the joy of the fans with his latest hit."

News of the season 2 renewal for After Life confirms that Netflix has officially ordered six more episodes of the drama-induced sitcom. The show is produced by Derek Productions, which pulls its name from the first original collaboration between Garvais and Netflix, the acclaimed sitcom Derek.

After Life is created, written and directed by Ricky Gervais. Charlie Hanson is producer and Ricky Gervais and Duncan Hayes are executive producers. The comedy series, which brings a lot of pathos and emotion to its core laughs, centers around Tony (Ricky Gervais), who seemingly had a perfect life. But after his wife Lisa dies, Tony changes. After contemplating taking his own life, he decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on.

He thinks it's like a Super Power, not caring about himself or anyone else. But it turns out to be tricky when everyone is trying to save the nice guy they used to know. Netflix hasn't announced an official release date for After Life season 2. But it is confirmed to be arriving sometime in 2020.

While you wait for these new episodes, you can check out the other originals Gervais has produced for Netflix, which include his 2018 comedy stand-up special Humanity and his 2016 Netflix Original Movie Special Correspondence. Derek is apparently no longer available to stream at this time. But the BBC and HBO series Extras is now streaming in its entirety. And The Office spin-off movie David Brent: Life on the Road, which was exclusive to Netflix in the states, is also available on Netflix streaming.
