British actor James D'Arcy has joined the growing cast of ABC's Marvel's Agent Carter, playing the butler of Tony Stark's father, Howard Stark.

Dominic Cooper played Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger and the Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter, which the series is based on. Series star Hayley Atwell hinted in June that Dominic Cooper is returning as Howard Stark, but his casting has not been confirmed at this time.

The Stark butler is also an ally of Hayley Atwell's title character, although no other details about the role were released. It's possible that James D'Arcy is playing Edwin Jarvis, who was a faithful butler for The Avengers in the Marvel comic books. The character was changed to a high-tech AI computer for the Marvel movies staring with 2008's Iron Man, with Paul Bettany voicing the character.

We reported last month that Chad Michael Murray and Enver Gjokaj are playing SSR Agents Jack Thompson and Daniel Sousa, who will work with Carter as she takes on a new role at SSR headquarters in New York. The show is set in 1946, following Peggy as she goes on secret missions for Howard Stark, while adjusting to her life as a single woman after losing the love of her life, Steve Rogers, at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger.

Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely wrote the pilot script and are executive producing. ABC hasn't announced exactly when Marvel's Agent Carter will debut, but the eight-episode season will run between the first and second halves of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s second season.

James D'Arcy most recently starred in the big screen comedy Let's Be Cops, and he will next be seen in Jupiter Ascending.
