With the five-season run of HBO's Boardwalk Empire winding down this fall, series star Shea Whigham has joined the cast of ABC's Marvel's Agent Carter.

Shea Whigham is playing SSR Chief Roger Dooley, who oversees Agents Carter (Hayley Atwell), Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) and Sousa (Enver Gjokaj). It isn't known if he will appear in the entire eight-episode season, which will debut sometime in mid-season, between the first and second halves of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s second season.

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier) created the series, which is set in the year 1946, after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger. The show follows Hayley Atwell's title character, as she works for the Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR). Peggy must balance her secret missions for Howard Stark, while coming to grips with her new life as a single woman, after she lost the love of her life, Steve Rogers.

Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas are serving as showrunners and executive producing alongside Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely, Chris Dingess, Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Alan Fine, Joe Quesada, Stan Lee and Jeph Loeb.

Shea Whigham is best known for playing Eli Thompson on HBO's Boardwalk Empire, and he also had a two-episode arc on True Detective earlier this year.
