Next week's episode of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., "Love in the Time of Hydra" will feature the return of one character and the debut of another, both of whom are featured in two new posters for the ABC series. First up, Brett Dalton's Grant Ward returns along with Agent 33 (Maya Stojan), who are both depicted in an artistic new poster from Entertainment Weekly. The second poster gives us our first look at Edward James Olmos as Robert Gonazles, who is apparently at odds with Coulson (Clark Gregg). It's possible that Gonzales is the man behind Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki) and Mack's (Henry Simmons) secret mission, but we don't know for sure.
This episode will be the first time fans have seen Ward since the midseason finale, when he was seen with Agent 33. Executive producer Jeffrey Bell told Entertainment Weekly that fans will learn what Ward and Agent 33 have been up to since then:
"We call this "Love in the Time of Hydra", and so you're going to see what happened. At the end of "What They Become", which was our mid-season finale, Agent 33 and Ward limp off together towards the sunset. And this episode will bring us up to date and see what that has meant. And as the poster suggests, love is in the air. What I love about the poster is he's holding two women. And if you focus on the red you see the one, but if you focus on the blue, you see the other. And half of that goes to Agent 33, who has two faces-who doesn't know who she is, who has no real memory of that. And it also goes to the fact that she's been imitating other people as she did with Agent May. And so it's sort of this dichotomy in the romantic way the red girl is looking up at him, and the way the blue one leans into him like he's all dreamy. I mean, it's really twisted."
What do you think of these new posters? Are you glad that Ward is finally coming back? How do you think Coulson will react to the arrival of Gonzales? Chime in with your thoughts below, and stay tuned for more on next week's "Love in the Time of Hydra", airing Tuesday, March 24 at 9 PM ET on ABC.
