Within the Star Wars universe, the character Ahsoka Tano was introduced to the world in the 2008 animated movie Star Wars: The Clone Wars. She has risen from the ranks of obscurity to fan-favorite over her long, long career as a Jedi padawan and then simply as herself after she left the Jedi order. While many found her insufferable (ironically because she mirrored all of her master Anakin Skywalker's personality flaws) when she was first introduced, throughout seven long seasons of the 2008 animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, fans watched her grow from an annoying brat into a wise and noble Jedi. She then did something that no other Star Wars character up to that point had ever done, willingly leave the Jedi order.

Unlike most Star Wars characters in 2008, Ahsoka was really someone that younger and newer fans could connect with, as she was introduced at the very beginning of her story when she had just attained the rank of Jedi padawan. As the show went on and the members of the show's audience grew up, she grew with them and learned valuable life lessons along the way. Then in November 2020, to the surprise of nearly every Star Wars fan, Ahsoka made the jump from animation to live-action as she appeared in the fifth episode of season two of The Mandalorian, played by the lovely and talented Rosario Dawson. Not long afterward, Disney revealed that the fan-favorite, white lightsaber-wielding Togruta would be getting her own Disney+ series bearing her name.

Barring the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Mandalorian season three, Ahsoka is probably the one upcoming Star Wars-related Disney+ show that fans are looking forward to the most. After all, they have no reason not to be. Young fans in 2008 practically grew up watching Ahsoka's adventures every week, and now all those young fans are adults and are eager to see a character who may as well have grown up with them finally get the respect she deserves in live-action. However, even with all the hype, very little is actually known about Ahsoka's upcoming solo series, and details about the plot remain scarce. Thankfully, what little information is known is enough for most fans to make at the very least accurate guesses as to what could happen in the upcoming Ahsoka series.

The Plot

Star Wars Rebels Sequel Series to Follow Ahsoka and Sabine's Search for Ezra?
Disney+

The last time Star Wars fans saw Ahsoka Tano was in episode six of The Book of Boba Fett, where she was paling around with Luke Skywalker while he trained the freakishly adorable Grogu. Prior to that, she was seen in episode five of The Mandalorian season two. After dueling the ex-imperial industrialist Morgan Elsbeth, she held her at lightsaber point and demanded to know the location of one Grand Admiral Thrawn. Before this, however, the last time fans saw Ahsoka was at the very end of Star Wars: Rebels, where she and Sabine Wren decided to go out and look for their missing friend Ezra Bridger, who had disappeared into space with the aforementioned Grand Admiral Thrawn after engineering his defeat at the end of Star Wars: Rebels.

Based on this information, one can infer that the plot of Ahsoka is going to revolve around Ahsoka and Sabine's search for not only Grand Admiral Thrawn but Ezra Bridger as well. By the time The Mandalorian takes place, both have been missing in space for years. However, one should not be quick to discount the possibility that their search may take longer than a single season to complete.

The Cast

Much like the Marvel movies, Star Wars is one of those fictional universes where the plot is largely defined by the characters present in it. Thankfully for Ahsoka, we have a fairly decent idea of which characters will be present and who will be playing them. Confirmed cast members include Rosario Dawson returning as Ahsoka Tano, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as the Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren of Star Wars: Rebels fame (and also making the jump from animation to live-action), and Hayden Christensen reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker from the prequel trilogy movies, likely in the form of either a force ghost or flashbacks given when the show takes place.

In addition, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ray Stevenson, and Ivanna Sakhno have all been cast in as of yet undisclosed roles. However, Ray Stevenson has been confirmed to be playing an imperial officer. Sadly at the time of writing, no other cast members or characters have been confirmed to appear in Ahsoka, and knowing Disney, it is likely to stay that way for some time.

Release Date

No official release date for Ahsoka has been revealed. Based on current Disney+ release schedules, the most likely window of time for the show to be released would be anywhere between mid to late 2023, as The Mandalorian season 3 is slated to be released in late 2022, and Ahsoka is expected to follow it.

Sadly, all other information regarding Ahsoka has been kept under lock and key, and Disney has been very efficient in the past when it comes to keeping secrets. While keeping secrets is a trait usually associated with the dark side, in the case of Marvel and Star Wars, secrets have paid off for Disney, as they have kept fans consistently on their toes up until release.
