The highly-anticipated Tamil Indian blockbuster, Valimai, finally released its first trailer on Thursday, Dec. 30th. The film stars Ajith Kumar and Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi in her second Tamil film in the lead roles with Kartikeya Gummakonda starring as the main antagonist.

The film follows Kumar and Qureshi on the trail of a dangerous motorcycle gang. As one can see from the trailer, the movie is action-packed and involves massive stunts and heavy dialogue that is sure to keep an audience on the edge of their seats.

Ajith Kumar is widely known across India and has made quite the name for himself in South Indian cinema. Referred to by his fans as “Thala” (Leader), Kumar is one of the most highly paid actors of the Tamil film industry and has been included in the Forbes India Celebrity 100 list three times. Valimai will also reunite Kumar with director and screenwriter H. Vinoth and producer Boney Kapoor, with whom he worked on the 2019 movie Nerkonda Paarvai which was an initial success at the Box Office. The film is produced by Kapoor via his Bayview Projects, and by Zee Studios as well.

“Every commercial director’s dream is to work with big names, but as a star, Ajith was so humble that it took me by surprise. He even served coffee for me! I’m going to be doing my third film with him now, but the excitement of seeing him has not dimmed till date, ” says director H. Vinoth on working with Kumar. “He knows when I am down and when things are not going as planned. Whenever that happens, he will come to my side, tap my shoulder and say: ‘Everything will fall in place.’”

The film is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and has since released two songs from the movie’s soundtrack: “Naanga Vera Maari,” which garnered more than 39 million views on YouTube, and “Mother Song,” released earlier this month, with eight million views so far.

Valimai had initially looked upon numerous Bollywood stars such as Jahnvi Kapoor, Parneeti Chopra, and Ajay Devgan for the lead roles, but all declined due to scheduling conflicts.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film’s production was altered and the planned 2020 release had to be postponed. Announced in late 2019, fans have since been anticipating the film’s release and asking on social media for a glimpse of the film. Since the release of the trailer today, fans can be seen gathered outside celebrating the movie's release.

Valimai is now due to release on Jan. 14, 2022, during the Pongal holiday in theaters.
