Another big name has joined the star-studded cast of Fast X, the tenth and penultimate installment of the Fast and Furious movie series. The film is currently in production, though a hiatus was taken after director Justin Lin wound up leaving the project. With the film moving forward with new director Louis Leterrier, the cast has also been expanded with Reacher star Alan Ritchson signing on to appear in a prominent role, as originally reported by Deadline.

Ritchson is best known for Reacher, considering the immense success of the Prime Video series. A second season of the show is currently in the works with Ritchson set to return. Amazon has also signed the actor to a three-movie deal in the wake of Reacher's success, so he'll be starring in several movies to come on Prime Video as well. His other known roles include Thad Castle in Blue Mountain State, Aquaman in Smallville, and Hank Hall in Titans.

Ritchson is not the only big name making his Fast and Furious debut in Fast X. After Captain Marvel star Brie Larson publicly campaigned for a role in the series, her wishes were granted when Vin Diesel recruited her for the tenth Fast film. Aquaman star Jason Momoa has also been cast to play the movie's villain, and The Suicide Squad standout Daniela Melchior has been cast in a mystery role. Because Fast X has a budget that's reportedly in the range of $300 million, it would appear that the filmmakers are sparing no expenses when it comes to assembling an all-star cast.

Of course, the major players from the franchise are set to return as well. That obviously includes Diesel with other Fast and Furious alumni returning including Charlize Theron, Michelle Rodriguez, Sung Kang, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, and Cardi B. Odds are high that there will be some surprises, such as other cast members from the series returning, though we shouldn't count on a Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson cameo.

Lin will remain on board as a producer after exiting as director. Also producing are Diesel, Neal H. Moritz, Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Clayton Townsend, and Samantha Vincent. Lin co-wrote the script with Dan Mazeau.

The plan is for the Fast and Furious movie series to conclude after two more films. Fast X is the first of those final two movies, which had been planned for Justin Lin to direct before his recent exit. While the movie series continues to make big bucks at the box office, F9 being no exception, Vin Diesel feels that the time is right to start bringing this story to its close. Last year, he spoke about how the story deserved to have a proper conclusion.

“Every story deserves its own ending,” Diesel said, per AP. "I know people are going to feel like it doesn’t have to end, but I think all good things should. There are reasons for a finale. I think this franchise has deserved it.”

Fast X is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on May 19, 2023.
